No alcohol for Sinhala and Hindu New Year


Special excise programmes to build a society sans alcohol and drugs
All bars, taverns, restaurants and wine stores throughout the country were ordered to be closed on the 13th and 14th of April and Department of Excise launched a special programme targeting the coming week of Sinhala and Tamil New Year countrywide to control the production and sale of illicit liquor as well as the violation of Excise laws yesterday, Colombo Excise Department sources said.
The programme was initiated according to the concept of “To build a society sans alcohol and drugs”. As a result all officers would be summoned for duty during the season and offenders would be subjected to severe punishment.
